President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Monday received the Minister of State for Finance-designate, Taiwo Oyedele, at the State House in Abuja in a meeting seen as reinforcing the administration’s push to strengthen fiscal management and deepen tax reforms.
This is Oyedele’s first official audience with the president since his designation as minister.
Sources familiar with the meeting said the discussion provided an opportunity for both men to review the government’s ongoing fiscal reform agenda and assess strategies aimed at strengthening the country’s revenue framework.
The talks reportedly focused on improving tax administration, expanding Nigeria’s tax base and ensuring more efficient mobilisation of government revenues to support economic growth and national development.
Officials said the meeting also examined ways to align fiscal policy reforms with the administration’s broader economic strategy aimed at stabilising the economy and enhancing public sector accountability.
Oyedele, a respected tax expert, had before his appointment been actively involved in policy engagements with the president and senior government officials on tax reforms and broader economic initiatives.
His new role is expected to strengthen the government’s drive to overhaul Nigeria’s tax system, simplify compliance and improve revenue collection.
The Federal Government has in recent months intensified efforts to implement fiscal reforms designed to increase non-oil revenues and reduce the country’s dependence on crude oil earnings.
