President Bola Tinubu is set to preside over a meeting of the Nigeria Police Council on Monday to formally consider the appointment of Olatunji Disu as the substantive Inspector-General of Police.
Sources within the Presidency and the police hierarchy confirmed that the council is scheduled to meet at the start of the week.
One official simply stated, “The Police Council meeting is on Monday,” while another, who is also privy to the arrangement, disclosed that proceedings are expected to begin around midday, in line with the usual timing of Federal Executive Council sessions.
The planned meeting follows due process as outlined in the Police Act 2020, which mandates the Nigeria Police Council to consider any nomination for the office of Inspector-General before the President forwards the candidate’s name to the Senate for confirmation.
