US President Donald Trump has warned that Washington could deploy military forces to Nigeria and suspend all aid unless the Nigerian government halts what he described as the persecution and killing of Christians.

In a post on his Truth Social platform on Saturday, Trump instructed the US “Department of War” to prepare for “possible action” should the alleged attacks continue. He said the United States would “immediately stop all aid and assistance to Nigeria” if the federal government failed to act, and added that any intervention would be swift and forceful.

“I am hereby instructing our Department of War to prepare for possible action. If we attack, it will be fast, vicious, and sweet,” Trump wrote, blaming “Islamic terrorists” for what he described as widespread killings of Christians in Nigeria.

The post follows an earlier announcement in which Trump designated Nigeria a “Country of Particular Concern” over reports of violence targeting Christians. He also directed members of the US House Appropriations Committee to investigate the allegations.

As of reporting time, the Nigerian Federal Government had not issued an official response to Trump’s threat.
