The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), loyal to the Tanimu Turaki-led faction, has raised the alarm over a possible attempt by expelled members to occupy the party’s National Secretariat and other properties, warning that such action would be illegal and would attract strong legal consequences.
The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, said in a statement on Thursday that any attempt to forcefully occupy the secretariat would amount to a violation of established legal principles.
Ememobong noted that the matter is currently before Justice Joyce Abdulmalik, adding that the suit was instituted by the expelled members themselves and that they cannot resort to self-help while the case is still pending.
“Until judgment is delivered, no party has the right to take the law into its own hands,” the statement said.
The warning followed an earlier declaration by the National Secretary of the PDP National Caretaker Committee aligned with the Wike faction, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, after a meeting with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The Turaki-led faction also called on the Nigeria Police Force to prevent any actions that could disrupt peace or undermine the ongoing judicial process, pending the determination of the suit.
