The U.S. Mission in Nigeria has directed visa applicants to disclose all social media usernames and handles they have used within the last five years as part of their application process.
The announcement, made via the Mission’s official X account on Monday, aligns with the U.S. Department of State’s broader efforts to tighten national security through enhanced screening procedures.
According to the directive, Nigerian applicants filling out the DS-160 visa application form must provide a comprehensive list of their social media profiles. The U.S. Mission warned that failure to include this information could result in visa denial and even ineligibility for future U.S. visas.
“Visa applicants are required to list all social media usernames or handles of every platform they have used from the last five years on the DS-160 visa application form,” the post read.
It further stressed that by signing and submitting the application, applicants are certifying the accuracy of the information provided. Any omissions, whether deliberate or not, could carry serious consequences.
