It was a moment of joy, praise, and gratitude as Union Baptist Church, Ekotedo, Ibadan, marked its 80th anniversary with a week-long celebration themed “Celebrating God’s Goodness.”
The event which culminated in a grand thanksgiving service on Sunday, drew a large crowd of congregants, well-wishers, and members of the church community, all united in their appreciation of God’s mercy and faithfulness over the past eight decades.
Speaking to Adamimogo 105.1 FM, the pastor in charge of the church, Pastor Jonathan Babalola, expressed deep gratitude to God for sustaining the church through various trials since its establishment. He also reflected on the church’s impactful journey, noting its spiritual and humanitarian contributions to the community and beyond.
One of the highlights of the anniversary was the foundation stone laying for the church’s college, alongside a memorial and fundraising event. Delivering the sermon, Pastor Samson Adedokun of New Dawn Baptist Church, Victoria Island, Lagos, congratulated the congregation on the celebration, urging the church to remain focused on Christ as the foundation of their faith.
Pastor Adedokun charged the members to remain steadfast in God’s will despite life’s challenges, assuring them of the manifestation of God’s latter glory and a brighter future.
Also speaking at the event were the chairman and chairperson of the day, Engr. Femi Babalola and Mrs. Omolara Aremu, who both congratulated the church and pledged continued support for its future projects and vision.
Awards were presented to living and departed members of the church who had played significant roles in its growth over the years. Among the honourees was retired General Oladayo Popoola, a former military governor of Oyo and Ogun States, who was recognized for his enduring support.
