The Senior Staff Association of Universities, Teaching Hospitals, Research Institutes, and Associated Institutions (SSAUTHRIAI) has called on the Federal Government to immediately implement the 65-year retirement age policy for all categories of staff in Colleges of Agriculture and related institutions across the country.
This demand was made in a communiqué issued at the end of the union’s Sectoral Council Meeting held at the Federal College of Animal Health and Production Technology, Jos, Plateau State. The document was jointly signed by the Council Chairman, Idris Shadrack, and the Secretary, Yusuf Dada.
According to the communiqué, the union stressed that enforcing the retirement age policy is essential for ensuring fairness, strengthening institutional stability, and retaining experienced professionals in Nigeria’s agricultural education and research sectors.
“The Council calls on the Federal Government to immediately commence the implementation of the 65-year retirement age policy for all categories of staff in Colleges of Agriculture and related disciplines across the country,” the communiqué stated.
SSAUTHRIAI also expressed concern over what it described as the “prolonged delay” in the payment of several financial entitlements owed to its members.
These include wage award allowances, the consequential adjustment of the national minimum wage, peculiar allowance arrears, hazard allowances, and the long-outstanding arrears of the 25% and 35% salary increment.
