Starting in November, residents of Imo State are set to enjoy uninterrupted 24-hour electricity supply, beginning with a pilot phase in Owerri metropolis and its surrounding areas.
Governor Hope Uzodimma made the announcement during a stakeholders’ and expanded state executive council meeting held at the Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu International Conference Centre (EIICC), Owerri, over the weekend.
According to the governor, the initiative will be powered by the Urashi Power Plant project, which was commissioned and strengthened through an enabling law to ensure sustainable energy delivery across the state.
He added that after the test run in Owerri, other regions such as Orlu, Okigwe, and Mbaise will gradually be integrated into the 24-hour electricity plan.
“This is part of our long-term energy strategy to boost productivity, attract investment, and improve living standards in Imo State,” Uzodimma said.
Also, the governor announced that individuals earning less tthanN150,000 per month will be exempted from paying personal income tax. He explained that oil companies operating within the state will play a key role in implementing the policy.
