The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has reaffirmed that the national convention of the Peoples Democratic Party will proceed as scheduled on March 29 and 30, despite ongoing internal disagreements.

Wike gave the assurance on Friday after inspecting the Moshood Abiola National Stadium Velodrome, the designated venue for the convention, expressing satisfaction with the level of preparation ahead of the event.

According to him, about 2,500 delegates are expected to attend the gathering, as the party begins to consolidate its position ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He downplayed the impact of lingering disputes within the party, including a legal challenge filed at the Supreme Court by a faction led by Tanimu Turaki, insisting that the move would not derail the convention.

While acknowledging the existence of grievances within the party, Wike maintained that reconciliation efforts would continue even after the convention.

“There is room for accommodation. The PDP is a very large party. Look at the umbrella, it is wide enough to accommodate everyone,” he said, adding that disagreements are inevitable in any large political organisation.

The former Rivers State governor also expressed confidence in the PDP’s prospects, declaring that the party would spring surprises in the next general elections.
