Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has declared that the wave of defections by prominent Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) members to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has vindicated his long-criticised support for President Bola Tinubu.
Wike made the remark on Wednesday during the flag-off ceremony for the construction of the main carriageways on the Outer Southern Expressway in Abuja.
The former Rivers State governor said it was ironic that those who once accused him of betraying the PDP by aligning with the APC were now themselves crossing over to the ruling party.
“I have been watching on television and social media, people who said I wanted to destabilise the party, that I was working for the APC. All of them are now in the APC,” Wike said.
He added pointedly, “Which means if it is true, they should commend me for working for where they are heading. So, I should be praised for doing a good job for them.”
Wike, who served as a key member of the G5 governors, a group of PDP governors who opposed the party’s leadership in the lead-up to the 2023 general elections has consistently defended his decision to back President Tinubu, arguing that his choice was driven by fairness and national interest.
