The aftermath of the 1983 killing of prominent politicians and burning of houses in Akure, the capital of Ondo State, following the manipulation of election results in favour of the defunct National Party of Nigeria (NPN) has continued to haunt the kingdom. On August 16, 2026, the paramount ruler of Akure Kingdom, Oba Aladetoyinbo Ogunlade, assembled sons and daughters of the kingdom in Akure City Hall to be anointed and prayed for by Prophet Toye Ebijomore and other Ministers of God. In this interview with GABCI Media and other Reporters, the lead Pastor, Prophet Toye Ebijemore, Founder and General Overseer, God’s Anointed and Blessed Church International, unveiled the reason for the programme. Excerpts:
On every August 16, the Deji of Akure always organised a praise and prayer event. What’s the reason for this?
Firstly, it is worthy to appreciate the good heart of His Imperial Majesty, Oba Aladetoyinbo Ogunlade Aladelusi, the Deji of Akure and the prescribed Paramount Ruler of Akure land for organising this yearly praise and prayer event. This is because many traditional kings in this part of the world are not courageous enough to publicly acknowledge the King of kings as the only One who has the lasting solution to the problems facing people and lands.
On August 16, 1983 great violence erupted across major towns of Ondo State following the announced result of the governorship election. The unrest led to arson, destruction of public properties, and targeted killings of prominent figures and politicians by angry mobs.
Akure, being the State capital, greatly suffered as many of its children and notable political stalwarts, especially in the opposition party, did not survive the uproar. The military capitalized on the prolonged riot to overthrow the Second Republic in December 1983.
Therefore, the Deji of Akure chose to mark the day yearly by organizing a praise and prayer event to ask God to show mercy on Akureland. The king should be highly commended for publicly demonstrating his love for his people and the land through this godly act.
Since the political insurgency sprang up in Akure and wildfired persistently until it truncated the Second Republic, I believe that every 16th of August should be a solemn day of national gathering in Akure for prayer, seeking God’s mercy, forgiveness, teachings on justice, good governance, democratic sustainability, and sustainable development.
In this year’s event, last Sunday to be precise, you were among ministers of God who ministered at the event. Have you featured on the programme before?
I had never featured in the programme until last Sunday, when the king specially invited me. The Chairman of the Akure Prays Committee, Apostle Olaniyan Peter, told him about my 2018 prophecies concerning Ondo State, and I had also lettered the part concerning Akureland to his palace immediately God sent me the message.
When the king received us in his palace on Sunday and I narrated the message to him, it was a great surprise to note that the people had not passed the message to him for these past 8 years and 8 months.
This is the message:
On January 1, 2018, the Lord said to me that He is set to make Ondo State shine in glory. He took me to a place like the departure lounge of an airport, and some white men were there asking for the way to Ondo State, but complaining that its gates were not opened. I told them to follow me, and as we were leaving, the Lord told me that there are two gates in Ondo State: one in Ilaje and the other in Akure. He said if the gates are not opened, there cannot be great development in the State. So He told me to tell Ilajeland and Akureland to organize a ‘Glory Redemption Crusade’, that He would then lead the white men into the State, and He gave me the pattern for the crusade.
I asked the Lord what would be the sign for the fulfilment of the vision, and He told me that a secret account would be discovered in the State government circle within the year.
The Ilaje Glory Redemption Crusade was held on April 12, 2018, and the manifestations began in Ilaje on that very day. Again in 2024, the Lord said we should hold the Ilaje Glory Manifestation Crusade, which we held on March 8, 2024, and the Lord likewise proved His word.
When the Ondo State government announced its discovery of a secret bank account containing N4.3 billion about a month after the crusade of April 12, 2018, it gave me full confidence that God would do what He told me. I am a full-time minister of God, not a civil servant or someone interfacing with any secular investigator to have known the goings-on of the government.
The Bible says, “Surely the Lord God will do nothing, but He revealeth His secret unto His servants the prophets.” (Amos 3:7). My yearly prophecies are in the public domain to fact-check their consistent fulfilment.
The Lord has sent me to many lands and kingdoms to minister the opening of their gates, and they are experiencing the great blessings thereof.
He also sent me to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on January 1, 2024, that he should convoke a National Prayer for the redemption of Nigeria’s glory, and I delivered the message by private letters to him and through publications in the media. I only hope that the good people around him will showcase their love for Nigeria by passing the message to him and encouraging him to do what God said.
It was observed that you performed the cleansing of the land of Akure Kingdom by anointing the people and the land. What is the significance of this?
All the glory to God for His works through us, His servants. I was not the only one on the assignment. Members of the Nigeria National Prayer Altar, who have been praying with me in three vigils weekly since the Lord gave the message that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu should convene a national prayer for the redemption of Nigeria’s glory, were in my team. They include Rev’d. H. O. Jesuloluwa, Pastor J.T. Aliki, Pastor A.O. Akinyede, Pastor Mrs. Funmilayo Ebijomore, Pastor Kayode Falade, and others.
Also in my team were some ministers from the church I oversee, God’s Anointed and Blessed Church International.
Likewise, there were Akure indigenes who made pre-fixe ministrations on that day. They are Pastor Sam. Oladipupo, Pastor Raphael Okunade, Pastor John Kolawole, Pastor Ademola Folorunsho, Pastor M.K. Adaramola, Very Rev’d Professor Ayodele Atowoju, Professor (Pastor) Owoyemi J. Mayowa, and Apostle Olaniyan Peter, the Chairman of the Organising Committee of the programme.
The cleansing of the land of Akure Kingdom by anointing the people and the land, which I performed, was as the Lord instructed me. It was the same way I did it at the crusades in Ilaje. Many people fail examinations not because they are not brilliant, but because they did not carefully follow instructions. When the Lord showed me the vision and told me of the crusade, He gave me instructions on how it should be done, and those are what I did.
Numbers 35:33 says, “So ye shall not pollute the land wherein ye are: for blood it defileth the land: and the land cannot be cleansed of the blood that is shed therein, but by the blood of him that shed it.” Without controversy, Akureland was greatly defiled in 1983 by arson, destruction of properties, violent killings, and sustained violence for days until the military intervention that truncated the Second Republic.
The bloodshed cried for vengeance, and the living are also easily resorting to violence at the slightest provocation. The defiled land must be cleansed by the precious blood of Jesus, which was symbolized by the plenteous anointing oil we used, as the Lord instructed me.
Now that you have performed this anointing, what should the people’s expectations be?
When you hearken diligently to the voice of the Lord God, and observe and do all He tells you to do, the blessings thereof shall come on you and overtake you. Akure has obeyed Him. The burdens are thereby taken away, the yokes are broken off and destroyed, and its gate is opened. The two gates in Ondo State are opened. Angels in the form of white men for great developments shall come in and dwell across the State.
Nevertheless, Hebrews 10:36-37 says, “For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise. For yet a little while, and he that shall come will come, and will not tarry.”
Therefore, the Lord has now established His agenda for Ondo State and begun the great work. Everyone should key into His agenda and not break ranks.
What roles are the people expected to play henceforth?
When God has a promise for people, He will warn them what they should not do and tell them what to observe so they can receive the promise. Every officiating minister in the programme warned the people of the land to forsake idolatry and wickedness, and to come into true salvation through Jesus Christ. They should not ignore or scorn the call, but accept it wholeheartedly.Acts 4:12 says, “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.”
To the non-indigenes living in Akure, Jeremiah 29:7 enjoins you saying, “seek the peace of the city whither I have caused you to be carried away captives, and pray unto the LORD for it: for in the peace thereof shall ye have peace.”
Also, I call on the people in authority, traditional, religious, and political, to lead the people with the fear of God.Proverbs 29:2 says, “When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn.” The politicians must continually recall the root causes of the political insurgency in 1983 and be guided never to involve in anything that can cause a setback for the State.
