Only The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Akeem Owoade reserves the authority to fill the position of the chief Imam
This was the position of the Alaafin’s Director of Media and Publicity, Bode Durojaiye, on Monday, against the horde of reports that a new Chief Imam has been appointed in the ancient town.
He described such reports as “unfounded, baseless, and mischievous,” urging the public to disregard them.
“The attention of the Alaafin’s Palace has been drawn to wild speculations that a new Chief Imam has been appointed for Oyo,” the palace said.
“The good people of Oyo and the general public are advised to disregard such misinformation, as the selection process is still ongoing with due consultations being made.”
The statement further emphasised that the Alaafin alone holds the traditional and exclusive right to appoint the number one Islamic cleric in the town.
“The rightful choice will be announced in due course. It should be noted that only His Imperial Majesty has the exclusive preserve to appoint a new Chief Imam for the town,” it added.
