The Board of Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party and members of the party’s Interim National Working Committee have called for a comprehensive review of Nigeria’s security structure following the recent abduction of teachers and pupils in Oyo State.
To this end The Nigerian Bar Association, Ibadan branch has urged Seyi Makinde to reassess population movements into the state amid growing security concerns.
The new call followed the kidnapping of teachers and pupils during coordinated attacks on Baptist Nursery and Primary School in Yawota, Community Grammar School and L.A. Primary School in Esiele, all located in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
Speaking with journalists after a closed-door meeting with Governor Makinde at the Governor’s Office in Ibadan, former Minister of Special Duties and leader of the Interim National Working Committee, Tanimu Turaki, said the delegation visited to express sympathy with the state government and residents over the attacks.
Turaki explained that the visit involved members of the party’s leadership, including the Interim National Working Committee and Board of Trustees led by Adolphus Wabara.
He stressed that security remains a critical national issue that requires urgent and sustained attention.
“The leadership of PDP, including members of the NWC, the Interim National Working Committee and the Board of Trustees, are here to commiserate with the government and the people of Oyo over the unfortunate incidents that recently occurred in Oriire Local Government and some parts of Ibadan,” he said.
Turaki further acknowledged efforts by the Oyo State government in addressing security challenges but stressed the need for stronger measures to safeguard lives and property.
