Tragedy struck at Soun High School in Oyo State when a teacher, Mr. Fatai Adegoke, was brutally attacked and killed by his students after attempting to stop them from gambling during school hours.

According to eyewitness accounts, Mr. Adegoke confronted a group of students who were gambling in a classroom, warning them against the act. The students reportedly reacted violently, beating him up and inflicting multiple injuries, including broken limbs.

He was rushed to a nearby hospital but later died from the injuries sustained in the attack.

In a statement issued by concerned educators, the incident was described as a heartbreaking and avoidable tragedy that highlights the growing breakdown of discipline among students.

“With deep pain and righteous indignation, we mourn the tragic death of Mr. Fatai Adegoke, a dedicated teacher who lost his life while upholding moral values,” the statement read. “This horrifying act is not just an assault on one man, it is an attack on the entire teaching profession.”

The educators called on the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), the Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), and law enforcement agencies to ensure that those responsible face the full weight of the law. They also urged parents to take greater responsibility in monitoring and guiding their children.

Efforts to reach the Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, Adewale Osifeso, for official confirmation were unsuccessful as of press time. Reports indicate that the students involved have gone into hiding, further fueling outrage within the community.
