Crest FM Academy, the training arm of Crest 106.1 FM, has graduated another batch of trainees, bringing the total number of graduates produced since its inception in 2021 to over 300.

The ceremony, held on Thursday in Akure, marked the completion of programmes in broadcasting, media production, presentation, newsroom operations, and digital content creation.

Chairman of the Board of Directors of Cresthills Media, Prince Ade Adekanmbi, said the milestone reflects the station’s commitment to building skilled professionals for Nigeria’s broadcasting and creative industries.

He urged the graduates to uphold journalistic ethics and stand for truth in their practice, warning against compromising their integrity.

“We need journalists who can uphold ethics and analytical policies, speak truth to power, and stand with the masses,” Adekanmbi stated.

He also announced the launch of the Crest FM Academy Fans Club, a community platform to engage listeners, support talent development, and promote youth participation in broadcasting through mentorship and outreach programmes.

Guest lecturer and veteran broadcaster, Mrs. Bisi Adanri, delivered a keynote address titled “Navigating the Challenges of Misinformation Amidst the Prevalence of Financial Intelligence.” She advocated for the strategic use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to combat misinformation and deepfakes.

“AI can be used to detect synthetic media, identify coordinated disinformation networks, and flag misleading content in real time,” she explained, calling for collaboration among journalists, educators, and tech companies to ensure content credibility.

The Group Chief Operating Officer of Cresthills Media, Mr. Adeolu Gboyega, reaffirmed plans to expand the academy’s programmes and upgrade its facilities.

Ms. Temitope Dare, pioneer Provost of the academy, noted that the institution blends classroom learning with hands-on studio practice, offering trainees real-world exposure to live broadcasting and newsroom operations.

One of the graduates, Adekunle Babatunde, thanked the academy for providing practical skills and confidence to pursue careers in media and communication.
