The Oyo State office of the Independent National Electoral Commission has announced a major shift in strategy for the second phase of the Continuous Voter Registration, with plans to rotate its Voter Enrolment Devices across all 351 Registration Areas in the state.
The State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Prof. Adeniran Rahmon Tella, disclosed this during a media briefing in Ibadan, stating that the move was designed to address logistical and accessibility challenges observed in the first phase of the exercise.
Phase Two of the CVR, which began on January 5, 2026, and runs until April 17, 2026, includes both online pre-registration and physical registration.
According to Prof. Tella, from February 9, 2026, INEC will deploy its IVED machines to each Registration Area under a 50-day rotational schedule, operating from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekdays only.
He also spoke on plans to engage stakeholders, including political parties, security agencies, civil society, traditional leaders, and disability groups at both state and local government levels to improve public awareness and security arrangements.
The REC reaffirmed INEC’s commitment to integrity and transparency, noting that staff have been retrained and logistics strengthened to ensure a smooth process ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He added that the Commission’s focus is on technology, improved result management, and sustainable funding to protect its operational independence.
