The Defence Headquarters has concluded its investigation into the alleged misconduct of sixteen military officers arrested last October, confirming that some were found culpable in a plot to overthrow the government.

In an update on Monday, the Director of Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba, stated that a comprehensive probe had been completed in accordance with military procedures. He confirmed that evidence supported allegations of a coup plot against some of the officers.

“The report has been forwarded to the appropriate superior authority for further action,” Uba said.

The officers, ranging from the rank of Captain to Brigadier General, were detained in October 2025 for acts of indiscipline and breaches of service regulations. At the time, widespread reports linked their arrests to secret meetings aimed at toppling the government, with speculation that the cancellation of that year’s Independence Day parade was related to the alleged plot.

The former Director of Defence Information, Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, had initially described the matter as an internal disciplinary issue.
