The Coalition Against Demolition, Forced Eviction, Land Grabbing, and Displacement, has accused the Lagos state government for being responsible for the death of at least 12 people including babies during demolition and eviction process in Makoko, Iyana-Oworoonsoki, , Owode-Onirin, among others.

Spokesperson for the Coalition, comrade Ayoyinka Oni disclosed this on Adamimogo FM alleging that the properties have been sold to individuals for private purposes insisting the demolition lacked legal injunction.

The allegations came after residents from the affected areas staged a protest at the state assembly complex which prompted Security agents to deploy teargas to disperse the crowd.

Comrade Ayo also berated the state government for offering a paltry sum of 200 thousand naira in some cases to residents as compensation,

Meanwhile Barrister Adams Attah who empathized with the protesters, insisted that the government is within its legal right to demolish illegal structures while providing resettlement plans.

Earlier today, the commissioner of police in Lagos state, Jimoh Olorundare denied use of force during the protest, insisting that no one sustained gunshot injuries.
