The House of Representatives today endorsed the call to conduct a nationwide simulation of the result transmission system, ahead of the 2027 general elections.

House Spokesman, Akin Rotimi, during a press conference reviewing the Electoral Act recently signed into law by President Bola Tinubu, opined that any activity that will restore public confidence in the electoral system should be encouraged.

Rotimi also supported immediate publication of the newly assented Electoral Act to enhance transparency and public awareness, noted that the public should have access to the document to erase all doubts.

He defended the National Assembly’s handling of the Electoral Act review process, insisting that lawmakers acted in good faith and in compliance with constitutional procedures.

Rotimi however apologized to protesters affected by the use of tear gas at the National Assembly earlier this week, describing the incident as regrettable and assuring that the circumstances surrounding it are being reviewed.

Police operatives had faced heavy criticism for firing tear gas at demonstrators who returned to the National Assembly complex on Tuesday to demand the mandatory inclusion of real-time electronic transmission of election results in the Electoral Act Amendment Bill, 2026.
