Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Policy Communication, has denied previously making critical remarks about the president during a television appearance on Al Jazeera.
Bwala made the clarification while speaking on the programme Head to Head, hosted by journalist Mehdi Hasan. The episode examined the performance of Tinubu’s administration under the theme “Nigeria: ‘Renewed Hope’ or ‘Hopelessness’?”
During the interview, Hasan confronted the presidential aide with past statements, video clips and comments from his time in the opposition when he was aligned with the presidential campaign of former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar.
The host referenced an alleged remark from January 22, 2023, in which Bwala was said to have accused Tinubu of creating a militia to influence the election.
“You said Tinubu started a militia to sway the election corruptly,” Hasan said while pressing the issue.
Bwala, however, denied making the statement and rejected the claim.
“Tinubu didn’t create a militia, and I never said that,” he responded.
