The government of Oyo State has reaffirmed its readiness to support initiatives aimed at promoting and preserving Yoruba cultural heritage, particularly among young people.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Friday by the Commissioner for Information, Dotun Oyelade.
According to the statement, the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Wasiu Olatubosun, made the commitment while receiving a delegation of the Itansan Arts Festival team during a courtesy visit to his office in Ibadan.
Olatubosun commended the organisers of the festival, describing the initiative as a commendable effort designed to celebrate and showcase the rich cultural heritage of the Yoruba people and honour the ancestors who laid the foundation for present generations.
He reiterated the state government’s commitment to encouraging programmes that can rekindle young people’s interest in culture and tradition, noting that cultural festivals play a vital role in preserving identity while also boosting tourism and community pride.
The organisers of the festival explained that the initiative is being championed by young individuals passionate about promoting Yoruba culture through engaging and well-structured programmes that resonate with younger audiences.
They noted that many youths have gradually drifted away from traditional cultural practices, stressing that the festival aims to reconnect them with their heritage.
