The Lagos State Government, through Health District III, has recorded improved healthcare utilisation in the first half of 2026, with 10 out of 13 key service indicators showing increases compared with the same period in 2025.
The Permanent Secretary of the District, Dr Monsurat Adeleke, disclosed this at the Mid-Year Data Review Meeting held on Friday at the Health District III Headquarters in Ikoyi. She said the improved figures reflected stronger service delivery and increased community engagement.
According to Adeleke, general healthcare attendance increased by 20 per cent, while deliveries rose by 15 per cent and postnatal care visits recorded a 33 per cent increase. Epe Local Government Area recorded the strongest performance, with a 102 per cent rise in deliveries, a 124 per cent increase in postnatal visits and a 32 per cent growth in general attendance.
She added that the number of new family planning acceptors increased by 13 per cent across the district. Ibeju-Lekki and Epe recorded increases of 53 per cent and 39 per cent respectively, while Eti-Osa recorded a six per cent decline.
However, Adeleke expressed concern over declining immunisation figures, with Measles 1 and Measles 2 coverage dropping by 32 per cent and 46 per cent respectively. Postnatal care visits in Eti-Osa also declined by 25 per cent.
She directed health facilities to investigate possible challenges relating to vaccine availability, cold-chain management and missed opportunities for immunisation. Adeleke also urged Ibeju-Lekki and Eti-Osa to adopt successful strategies used in Epe to improve service delivery.
The Permanent Secretary further cautioned against drawing conclusions from the reported reduction in malnutrition cases without proper validation, stressing that data must accurately reflect the health situation of residents.
According to her, the objective of the review was not merely to improve statistics but to ensure that every positive indicator translates into meaningful improvements in the health and wellbeing of residents across Health District III.
Earlier, the Head of Health Information Management, Mrs Bolaji Simbo, delivered a presentation titled, “Comparing Jan to June 2025 and Jan to June 2026,” highlighting the district’s performance across key healthcare indicators.
