Former presidential candidate and human rights activist Omoyele Sowore has alleged that the Minister of Works, David Umahi, paid ₦110 million to a woman, Tracy Ohiri, who had earlier accused him of owing her money.
Ohiri had approached a court demanding payment for what she described as long-overdue debts allegedly owed by the minister.
Her claims gained widespread attention after she alleged that she was harassed by security personnel attached to Umahi, drawing reactions from prominent Nigerians, including Sowore and Deji Adeyanju.
However, in a dramatic twist, Ohiri later shared a video on social media apologising to the minister, saying she had wrongly accused him and expressing regret for embarrassing him.
The video, which has since gone viral, has sparked mixed reactions online.
While some social media users described her as a fraud, others criticised Sowore for supporting what they described as an unverified claim.
Reacting to the development, Sowore alleged that Umahi paid Ohiri ₦110 million to withdraw the allegation and claimed the minister was also in the process of compensating other parties involved in the matter.
He further accused the minister of living beyond his means, questioning how a public official who earns about ₦25 million annually could afford to pay ₦110 million as compensation.
Umahi, who previously served as governor of Ebonyi State, has yet to respond to Sowore’s allegations.
“Now Minister David Umahi has handled the matter through a civil route, which means it is no longer a police case. They reportedly reached a legal agreement with Tracy Ohiri. From what I heard, they said he gave her ₦110 million and asked her to make the video.”
