Former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowere has slammed the reintroduction of the monthly environmental sanitation exercise by governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
In a session with newsmen, Sowore stated that the reintroduction signals lack of progress and utmost failure of the state government to employ innovation in keeping the state clean.
The human right activist also accused the state government of attempting to extort residents and ground businesses without cause.
Earlier, the State chapter of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) hailed the reintroduction of the exercise as a clear demonstration of responsible and responsive governance aimed at safeguarding public health.
APC spokesman in the state, Seye Oladejo said the initiative will promote environmental cleanliness, and strengthen community participation in maintaining a liveable city.
Sanwo-Olu announced the return of monthly environmental sanitation exercise over the weekend, stating it will take place every last Saturday of the month from 6.30 a.m. to 8.30 a.m, beginning from April.
