Members of Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, have begun receiving houses and national honours promised by the Federal Government following their triumph at the 2025 Women’s AfroBasket.
The National Sports Commission confirmed on Monday that housing documents for the athletes were formally presented to the gold-winning squad in Lyon.
The presentation was led by the Commission’s Chairman, Shehu Dikko, alongside its Director General, Bukola Olopade, marking a major step in fulfilling the government’s pledge to the team.
The reward package was initially announced by President Bola Tinubu on August 4, 2025, a day after the team successfully defended their title at the Women’s AfroBasket.
In recognition of their achievement, each player was promised a cash reward of $100,000, while members of the 11-man coaching and technical crew were to receive $50,000 each.
Beyond the financial incentives, the government also approved the allocation of three-bedroom apartments to each team member at the Renewed Hope Estate, alongside the conferment of the national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) on both players and officials.
Among the players who have now received their housing documents are Amy Okonkwo, Pallas Kunaiyi-Akpannah, Elizabeth Balogun, Sarah Ogoke, Ifunanya Okoro, Promise Amukamara, Murjanatu Musa, Blessing Ejiofor, Ezinne Kalu, Victoria Macaulay and Nicole Enabosi.
