The Confederation of African Football has awarded the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations title to Morocco after ruling that Senegal forfeited the final.
In a statement, CAF said Senegal breached tournament regulations by briefly refusing to continue the match after a late penalty was awarded to Morocco. Although Senegal returned and won 1–0 in extra time, the result has now been overturned.
The decision follows an appeal by Moroccan FA (FRMF) which CAF said is “declared admissible in form” and was upheld.
CAF said the action violated its rules, which require teams to complete matches unless instructed otherwise by the referee. The governing body has therefore recorded the final as a 3–0 win for Morocco.
Senegal’s football federation has rejected the decision and plans to appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
“In order to defend the rights and interests of Senegalese football, the Federation will initiate an appeal as soon as possible before the Court of Arbitration for Sports in Lausanne,” the Federation said in a post on X.
