Students of Baptist Secondary Grammar School have raised alarm over what they describe as a growing threat to their safety, calling on the Federal Government to install speed breakers and other traffic-calming measures along the busy Ago-Aare–Saki road.

The appeal, which has gained traction online, emerged in a viral video where students warned that speeding vehicles and heavy-duty trucks plying the highway pose daily risks to lives at the school’s entrance.

In the footage shared on X by the handle Oyo M Esi Oro, four students, three boys and a girl spoke on behalf of the school community, urging urgent intervention to prevent potential tragedies.

One of the students, Ayantoye Emmanuel, acknowledged ongoing road rehabilitation efforts but stressed that safety concerns remain unresolved.

“On behalf of the management, staff, and students, we appreciate President Bola Tinubu and the Federal Road Maintenance Agency for the ongoing maintenance along the Ago-Aare to Saki road,” he said.

He also commended Seyi Makinde, Governor of Oyo State, for his administration’s commitment to infrastructure development.

However, Emmanuel warned that the school’s location directly along the highway has left students and staff dangerously exposed.

Despite improvements to the road, he said the absence of speed control measures continues to put lives at risk, especially during peak traffic periods when trucks and fast-moving vehicles dominate the route.

The students called for immediate installation of speed breakers, road signs and other safety infrastructure to slow down traffic near the school premises.
