The Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Ministry of Establishments and Training, Dr Olubusola Ajibola Ajike Abidakun, has commissioned a solar energy project at the Central Records facility to address persistent power supply challenges affecting the processing of civil servants’ retirement files.
Speaking at the commissioning, Abidakun explained that the Central Records facility houses the service records and official documents of civil servants, which are retrieved and reviewed when they retire. She noted that frequent power outages had disrupted operations and contributed to avoidable delays in processing retirement documents.
As she prepares to retire from public service, Abidakun said she considered how she could contribute to improving the Lagos State Public Service. She explained that the solar installation was designed to address the longstanding electricity challenge and promote more efficient operations at the facility.
Beyond the solar project, the Permanent Secretary expressed her intention to improve the overall appearance and working conditions of the Central Records facility to create a more conducive environment for staff. The proposed improvements are expected to support staff welfare, productivity and effective service delivery.
The initiative forms part of Abidakun’s retirement legacy, reflecting her focus on addressing operational challenges and introducing practical solutions that can continue to benefit the public service beyond her tenure.
The solar installation is expected to provide a more reliable power supply for record retrieval and consultation, helping to improve the efficiency of retirement file processing and reduce disruptions caused by power outages.
