Political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections appear to be gathering momentum, as key opposition figures held a series of high-level meetings across the country, even as reconciliation efforts within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) continue to falter.

Governors Seyi Makinde and Bala Mohammed, who chairs the PDP Governors’ Forum, met behind closed doors with Seriake Dickson in Bauchi State on Sunday. The meeting comes amid a widening rift between the governors’ camp and allies of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

Makinde and Dickson later travelled to Kano State, where they met with former governor Rabiu Kwankwaso and Peter Obi. Though the gathering was officially framed as part of Eid-el-Fitr celebrations, insiders hinted that discussions may have extended to early positioning for the 2027 presidential race.

The unfolding meetings come against the backdrop of deepening tensions within the PDP. The National Publicity Secretary of the Wike-backed caretaker structure, Jungudo Mohammed, accused a rival faction led by Tanimu Turaki of plotting to disrupt the party’s national convention scheduled for March 29 and 30.

However, the Turaki-aligned camp, through its spokesperson Ini Ememobong, dismissed the allegations as unfounded, insisting the group remains committed to reconciliation efforts within the party.
