Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has officially declared his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election under the platform of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).
Makinde made the announcement during a political rally held at Mapo Hall in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, amid ongoing political realignments involving factions within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Addressing supporters at the rally, the governor formally unveiled his presidential ambition.
“I, Oluseyi Abiodun Makinde, Excellency, announce my candidacy for the position of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,”

The declaration follows a recent alliance between the Taminu Turaki-led faction of the PDP in Oyo State and the APM.
As part of the political arrangement, Makinde and the National Chairman of the APM, Yusuf Dantalle, signed a Memorandum of Understanding on behalf of both parties.
Under the agreement, candidates aligned with the PDP faction seeking elective offices, including governorship, Senate, House of Representatives and State House of Assembly seats, are expected to contest the 2027 elections on the platform of the APM instead of the PDP.

The move is seen as a significant development in the evolving political landscape ahead of the next general elections and may further deepen the ongoing internal crisis within the PDP.
