Academic-turned-politician, Adewale Kolapo Kareem, has rolled out an ambitious governance vision for Oyo State as the 2027 governorship race begins to take shape.
In a recent interview, Kareem pushed back against claims that his move into politics signals a break from academia, insisting it is instead a continuation of his intellectual mission in a more practical arena. He described politics as the central force shaping society, one that demands both analytical depth and disciplined execution.
“Politics defines the quality of our collective life,” he said. “What I bring is not a departure from scholarship, but its application, precision, evidence, and structure in governance.”
A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, Kareem argued that leadership must be earned through competence and character, not convenience. According to him, public office should be occupied by individuals willing to make sacrifices for the greater good, guided by integrity and a clear sense of purpose.
He warned against governance that exists only in theory, stressing that citizens must feel the real impact of democracy in their everyday lives. “Policies should not live in documents alone, they must translate into visible change on our streets,” he noted.
Declaring his intent for the 2027 election, Kareem said his ambition is rooted in a carefully designed roadmap rather than vague promises.
He described his approach as a blend of conscience, competence, and global perspective, aimed at repositioning Oyo State for sustainable development.
“I am coming with a structured blueprint,” he said. “One that seeks to restore Oyo’s ‘Pacesetter’ identity through practical, solution-driven leadership.”
He placed particular emphasis on transforming the education system, which he described as the foundation for long-term progress, while also advocating policies that will strengthen the state’s economy and improve overall quality of life.
