President Bola Tinubu has written to the Senate seeking confirmation of the appointment of Professor Abayomi Sunday Fasina, the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), as a non-career ambassador.
The request was conveyed in a letter addressed to the upper chamber and read during plenary, asking lawmakers to consider and approve the nomination in accordance with the relevant constitutional provisions.
Professor Fasina, a renowned academic and administrator, currently serves as the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti in Ekiti State.
His nomination is part of the Federal Government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s diplomatic representation through the appointment of qualified individuals from various professional backgrounds.
The Senate is expected to subject the nominee to the required screening process before deciding on his confirmation.
If confirmed, Fasina will serve as a non-career ambassador, representing Nigeria’s interests in diplomatic engagements and international relations.
