The Ministry of Power has said the recent apology issued by the minister reflects strong leadership, noting that many of the challenges facing the power sector are beyond his direct control.
Chief Technical Adviser to power minister Adebayo Olowoniyi explained that about 75 per cent of Nigeria’s electricity generation depends on gas, making the sector highly vulnerable to disruptions in gas supply.
According to him, one of the country’s major gas pipelines has been undergoing maintenance, significantly affecting the volume of gas available to power plants and, in turn, electricity generation nationwide.
He, however, assured that the situation is improving, revealing that the maintenance process is nearing completion.
He added that once gas supply is fully restored, power plants are expected to receive sufficient fuel to return generation levels to what has been recorded over the past three months.
The remarks come amid ongoing concerns over electricity supply in Nigeria, with stakeholders closely watching efforts to stabilise the grid and improve generation capacity.
