A Magistrates’ Court in Abeokuta, has remanded a 37-year-old nurse, Kehinde Adesanya, in prison over alleged conspiracy, attempted abortion, and the murder of Victoria Ariyo, a corps member in Ogun State.
Recall that 23-year-old Ariyo, who served under the Abeokuta South Local Government Area of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), reportedly died from pregnancy complications.
The nurse who allegedly supplied drugs to the deceased in an attempt to terminate the pregnancy was arraigned on a four-count charge bordering on conspiracy, attempt to procure abortion, and murder.
The Police Counsel, Solomon Babalola, prayed the court for an order to remand the defendant for 60 days at the Ibara Correctional Centre, pending advice from the State Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).
Magistrate O.O. Sam-Obaleye adjourned the case until May 26 for mention.
Reports say the deceased was involved in a romantic relationship with the Local Government Inspector (LGI) of the NYSC, Abass Olalekan, which eventually led to pregnancy and a termination that resulted in her death.
Olalekan who was arrested and arraigned on Monday pleaded not guilty and was granted bail of N500,000.
