Delegates from Kebbi, Ekiti, Bauchi and several other states on Sunday took centre stage at the 2026 National Convention of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), consolidating support for a new leadership structure aligned with the bloc backed by Nyesom Wike.
The convention, held at the Velodrome of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, saw the unveiling of 19 members of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC), in a strategic move aimed at repositioning the opposition ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The PDP Constitution (2017, as amended) provides for a 19-member NWC, comprising key national officers responsible for steering the party’s affairs. These include the National Chairman, Deputy National Chairmen (North and South), National Secretary, Treasurer, Organising Secretary, Publicity Secretary, among others.
In what party insiders described as a consensus-driven process, over 2,500 delegates affirmed the emergence of the new NWC members, following earlier reports that the Wike-backed camp had opted for a unified selection approach to avoid internal disputes.
Among those confirmed are Abdulrahman Mohammed as National Chairman; Aaron Chukwuemeka as Deputy National Chairman (South); Yusufu Akirikwen (SAN) as Deputy National Chairman (North); and Anyanwu Samuel as National Secretary.
Others include Kolawale Olabisi as Deputy National Secretary, Odeyemei Oladiran as National Treasurer, Lado Marke as Deputy National Treasurer, Eyim Henry as National Financial Secretary, Dr Grema Kyari as Deputy Financial Secretary, Umar Bature as National Organising Secretary, and Efere Augustine as Deputy Organising Secretary.
