The Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, has directed operatives of the Nigeria Police Force to seize vehicles operating without number plates as part of renewed efforts to tackle insecurity across the country.

Disu said this during the monthly conference of strategic police officers held on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, at the Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Peacekeeping Centre, Force Headquarters, Abuja.

According to him, the move comes amid growing concerns over rising insecurity in several parts of the country, with security agencies intensifying measures to track criminal movements and improve intelligence gathering.

The IGP also noted that Nigeria continues to face multiple security threats, including kidnapping, armed robbery, cult-related violence, terrorism, banditry, farmer-herder clashes, and cybercrime.

He stressed the need for stronger leadership, improved coordination, and more effective operational responses to keep the Police Force ahead of emerging criminal tactics.

Disu also highlighted recent operational gains recorded since the last conference held in May 2026.

According to him, the Force arrested eight suspected terrorists, 55 kidnapping suspects, 65 armed robbery suspects, 29 murder suspects, and 42 suspected cultists within the period under review.

He further disclosed that 88 kidnapped victims were rescued, while 114 firearms, 843 rounds of ammunition, and 28 stolen vehicles were recovered through various operations nationwide.

The IGP reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to sustaining pressure on criminal elements and improving public safety across the country.
