The Oyo State government through the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources has received a donation of plastic waste bins designated for waste separation aimed at promoting waste categorisation and proper waste disposal from Altak Industries, Ibadan.

Receiving the waste bins on behalf of the State Government, the Honourable Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Hon. Ademola Aderinto, expressed appreciation to Altak Industries for the thoughtful gesture.

He noted that the bins, designated separately with colours and inscriptions for paper, plastic and organic waste, would be distributed across offices within the governor’s office and some other offices within the state secretariat in the first phase of distribution, to serve as practical examples for citizens to emulate.

The Commissioner saw that waste segregation remains a key step toward effective waste management, urging residents of the state to adopt the practice.

He stated that when government offices demonstrate proper waste separation, it encourages the public to follow suit.

He said, “These bins for paper and plastic should be in every office in the Secretariat to serve as examples for citizens to emulate.” This will help people dispose of their waste appropriately and will in turn restrict elements that should not reach the land fill from getting to the land fill.

Elements like plastics, cans and glass can now be recovered from source while only organic waste will go to the land fill.

Those recovered elements can be given to recyclers, and citizens can make money from that and it will reduce waste generated by offices, individuals and households which would in turn reduced their cost of their waste evacuation.

“I urge all citizens of Oyo State to separate and segregate their waste. If we are not doing it as a government, how would they? That is why we are leading by example. We are thankful that you responded swiftly, and we also promise that any means by which the government can reciprocate, we will do so.”

Speaking on behalf of Altak Industries, Dr. Philip explained that the donation was part of the company’s CSR initiative to support the State Government’s efforts toward maintaining a clean environment.

He said the company donated the bins to assist the Ministry of Environment in promoting cleanliness, adding that a clean environment should be everyone’s watchword.

As a result of this, he said the company is projecting that all citizens of Oyo State must maintain a clean environment and dispose of their waste properly.
