The Federal Government has commenced the mass trial of suspects facing terrorism-related charges at the Federal High Court in Abuja.
The trial, which is typically conducted in Kainji, Niger State, was relocated to the Abuja Division of the Federal High Court for the current proceedings.
The Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, is leading the prosecution team, while the defence is being coordinated by the Director-General of the Legal Aid Council, Aliyu Abubakar.
The proceedings are taking place across multiple courtrooms and are expected to last for four days.
Several Federal High Court judges are handling different cases, including Justices Binta Nyako, Emeka Nwite, Musa Liman, James Omotosho, Obiora Egwuatu, and Ekerete Akpan, among others.
A total of 58 suspected terrorists were listed for trial on Monday before Justice Emeka Nwite.
The mass trial is part of ongoing efforts by the Federal Government to prosecute terrorism-related offences and strengthen national security enforcement.
