Operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) under the Lagos State Police Command have arrested an 18-year-old suspected vandal for tampering with critical road safety infrastructure on the Third Mainland Bridge.
Police public relations officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, said the suspect, identified as Dogara John, was apprehended while allegedly removing reflective road studs installed along the bridge.
According to the force spokesperson, a search conducted at the scene led to the recovery of 20 vandalised road studs in his possession.
The reflective markers are essential for improving visibility and guiding motorists, particularly at night and during adverse weather conditions on one of Lagos’ busiest routes.
Authorities noted that the removal of such infrastructure poses serious risks to road users and could contribute to accidents if left unchecked.
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, Tijani Fatai, reiterated the Command’s zero tolerance for vandalism, stressing that the destruction of public assets undermines safety efforts across the state.
He urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities around public infrastructure to security agencies.
The police also encouraged members of the public to make use of its emergency lines to provide timely information that could help prevent similar incidents.
