The Nigerian Universities Accounting Students Association (NUASA), McPherson University Chapter, has convened its Accounting and Finance Impact Global Conference, drawing students, academics, and industry experts to examine how emerging technologies are reshaping the accounting profession.
The conference, held at McPherson University, was themed “Beyond the Ledger: Exploring the Impact of AI and Emerging Technologies on the Future of Accounting,” and provided a platform for forward-looking discussions on innovation, disruption, and professional adaptation.
Representing the Vice Chancellor, Francis Igbasan, Olubunmi Ajibade reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to academic excellence and professional development. He described Accounting and Finance as a flagship programme of the university, noting that many students secure professional certifications even before graduation, a feat he attributed to the strength of the faculty led by Babatunde Lawal.
Ajibade also addressed the conference theme, highlighting the growing influence of artificial intelligence across sectors, including accounting.
He stressed the importance of equipping students and professionals with the skills needed to navigate technological disruptions and remain globally competitive.
The event featured a lineup of speakers, including Bodunde Victor, Tolulope Seun Ahmed, Wisdom Kumuyi, and Lawal, who delivered insights on innovation, digital transformation, and the future of accounting practice.
In his presentation, Lawal examined the intersection of emerging technologies, risk management, and governance in digital accounting. He underscored the urgency for professionals to keep pace with advancements such as blockchain, warning that failure to adapt could lead to irrelevance. He also called for stronger regulatory frameworks and policy direction to guide the evolving financial landscape, noting that meaningful reforms depend on both political will and effective implementation.
The conference featured an interactive panel session, where participants engaged speakers through questions and discussions, gaining practical insights into the future of accounting and finance in an increasingly technology-driven world.
