Tension flared in Ijebu-Ode on Monday morning as Senator Gbenga Daniel was prevented from attending the Ogun East Caucus meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Security personnel and organisers denied the former governor entry to the Adeola Odutola College venue for the gathering. Footage from the scene showed party supporters chanting “OGD!” in solidarity with the senator, while his aides attempted to negotiate with individuals behind the locked gates.
Addressing his followers from a branded campaign bus, Daniel disputed the legitimacy of the proceedings taking place inside.
“We are here for our Ogun East APC caucus meeting, but surprisingly, we have been barred,” Daniel said. “Let it be said that whatever they do here today is null and void.”
The emergency stakeholders’ meeting was organised by party leadership in Ijebu-Ode with the attendee list including the deputy governor, past and serving local government chairmen, councillors, and members of both the State and National Assembly.
Despite his status as a serving senator for the district, Daniel remained outside the gates for the duration of the incident.
