The Lagos State Government, through the Lagos State Wastewater Management Office (LSWMO), has sealed off two public toilets for illegally discharging untreated waste into public drainage systems.

In a statement today, the agency disclosed that a facility located at No. 68 Jinadu Street in Surulere was shut down for releasing untreated faecal matter into a nearby canal, causing environmental pollution.

Similarly, another public toilet situated under the Marina Bridge on Lagos Island was sealed for the deliberate discharge of raw sewage and untreated wastewater into public drains using a pumping machine.

The commissioner for environment and water resources, Tokunbo Wahab said the act constituted a public nuisance and posed serious risks to human health and the environment.

Wahab reiterated government commitment to safeguarding public health and maintaining environmental standards, warning that violators of wastewater management regulations would face sanctions and possible prosecution.

He also urged residents to adopt proper hygiene and wastewater disposal practices to promote environmental sustainability across the state.
