The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has confirmed the death of another dispatch rider in a tragic road accident that occurred within 24 hours at Otedola Bridge, inward the Secretariat along the Ogudu Toll Gate corridor.
The director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department, Adebayo Taofiq made this known in a press release by the agency.
The fatal incident involved a heavy-duty Volvo truck and a dispatch motorcycle, with the impact claiming the rider’s life instantly. The development has once again raised serious concerns about the safety risks faced by dispatch riders operating on major highways across Lagos.
LASTMA officials on patrol quickly arrived at the scene, securing the area to prevent further accidents amid heavy traffic conditions. The remains of the deceased were handed over to officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), while officers from the Nigeria Police Force provided additional security to maintain order during the evacuation.
The damaged truck and motorcycle were promptly cleared from the road, helping to restore traffic flow. However, the crash caused significant congestion, with traffic building up towards the Berger axis before normal movement was gradually reinstated.
Reacting to the incident, LASTMA General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, expressed his condolences to the victim’s family and emphasized on the need for stricter adherence to traffic regulations. He reiterated the agency’s commitment to working with stakeholders to enhance road safety awareness and reduce accidents across the state.
