Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency have arrested a 101-year-old woman for allegedly dealing in illicit drugs in Ilisan, Ogun State.
The suspect, identified as Esther Ogunmabo, was arrested on Saturday, August 15, 2026, with 90 grammes of skunk, a strain of cannabis, packaged in retail sachets.
According to the NDLEA spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, Ogunmabo told operatives that she sold the cannabis to residents in the area.
The agency said the centenarian claimed she turned to illicit drug trading after her provisions shop was destroyed by fire.
Babafemi, in a statement on Sunday, said the arrest was among several breakthroughs recorded by NDLEA operatives across the country’s land and maritime borders.
The agency quoted the suspect as explaining that the loss of her shop left her looking for alternative means of livelihood, eventually leading her into the illicit drug trade.
The arrest of the 101-year-old great-grandmother has attracted attention because of her advanced age, as the NDLEA continues its nationwide crackdown on the trafficking and distribution of illicit substances.
