Pep Guardiola’s goal pusher, Erling Haaland delivered when it mattered most, scoring the decisive goal as Manchester City edged Burnley 1-0 to climb to the top of the Premier League table, piling pressure on long-time leaders Arsenal.

For the first time in eight months, City sit at the summit, having last led the standings after their emphatic opening-day win over Wolves. In contrast, Arsenal’s grip has dramatically loosened, with a once commanding nine-point lead wiped out in just 11 days.

Mikel Arteta’s side looked set to run away with the title earlier this month but stumbled with a shock home defeat to Bournemouth. City capitalised ruthlessly, stringing together three consecutive victories, including a defining win over Arsenal that has reshaped the title race.

Despite their return to the top, questions remain over City’s efficiency in front of goal. Against a Burnley side already relegated, Pep Guardiola’s men created multiple chances but failed to extend their lead beyond Haaland’s strike, potentially missing an opportunity to strengthen their goal difference in what could be a razor-tight finish.

Speaking after the match, Pep Guardiola admitted his side lacked clinical edge in the final third, even as he praised their overall execution.

“We had chances… if we scored the second goal, we would have been more relaxed,” he said, noting fatigue may have affected finishing…he said.
