Governor Bala Mohammed has dismissed reports suggesting that he plans to leave the Allied Peoples Movement to become the running mate of former President Goodluck Jonathan in the build-up to the 2027 general election.
The clarification follows growing speculation after Jonathan emerged as the presidential candidate of a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party led by Kabiru Turaki during a special national convention held in Abuja on Saturday.
Jonathan was ratified as the faction’s presidential flag bearer at the gathering, which took place at the group’s office in Area 10, Garki, Abuja. Although the former president was absent, his certificate of return was received on his behalf by Fred Agbedi, a lawmaker from Bayelsa State.
The speculation intensified after Nuhu Sada, a member of the African Democratic Congress, claimed in a post on X that reports were circulating about Mohammed being considered as Jonathan’s running mate for the 2027 presidential election.
Responding to the claim on Sunday, Mohammed firmly denied the reports, stating that his political focus remains on contesting for the Bauchi South Senatorial District seat.
In a post on X, the governor said any suggestion that he was pursuing a different political path should be disregarded.
“Thank you for your interest in my political aspirations. However, for the sake of clarity, my focus remains firmly on contesting for the Bauchi South Senatorial District seat under the platform of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM),” he stated.
Mohammed further stressed that reports linking him to any vice-presidential ambition were speculative and inaccurate, reiterating his commitment to his senatorial aspiration ahead of the 2027 elections.
