Daughter of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Iyabo Obasanjo, has resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing what she described as persistent disrespect, exclusion and unfair treatment by the party’s leadership in Ogun State.

In a resignation letter dated May 31 and addressed to the Ogun State APC Chairman, Chief Yemi Sanusi, the former Ogun Senator accused the party of sidelining her despite her loyalty and commitment to its ideals.

The United States-based epidemiologist and academic, who recently sought the APC governorship ticket, expressed dissatisfaction with the process that led to the emergence of Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, as the party’s consensus governorship candidate.

According to Obasanjo, the process violated the spirit of fairness and transparency expected under the party’s internal guidelines.

She maintained that while she had publicly committed to respecting any consensus arrangement adopted by the APC, she was neither consulted nor involved in discussions leading to the selection of Adeola.

The former senator argued that the decision to announce a consensus candidate without broad consultation undermined the principles of inclusion and internal democracy that should guide political parties.
