President Bola Tinubu has issued a stern warning to bandits, kidnappers and sponsors of terrorism, declaring that they must surrender or face the full force of the Nigerian state.
The President gave the warning in his national broadcast to commemorate Nigeria’s 27th consecutive Democracy Day celebration and his fourth anniversary in office since assuming power in 2023.
Tinubu vowed that his administration would show no mercy to individuals involved in the killing and abduction of innocent Nigerians, stressing that the window for surrender would not remain open indefinitely.
“To bandits, kidnappers, and sponsors of terror: Surrender or face the full force of the Nigerian State. These windows of surrender will not remain open forever. No mercy will be shown to those who trade in the blood of Nigerians,” the President declared.
According to him, more than 13,000 terrorists have been neutralised in the past year as security agencies intensify operations against criminal groups across the country.
The President noted that although terror-related deaths had fallen by 81 per cent since 2015, this year’s Democracy Day celebration was overshadowed by the continued captivity of schoolchildren abducted in Oyo and Borno states.
Tinubu further disclosed that his administration had moved beyond training programmes with international partners to carrying out precision operations on the ground, reaffirming his government’s determination to restore peace and safeguard the lives and property of Nigerians.
