Tension escalated in Ilawe-Ekiti on Saturday after violence broke out during the ongoing Ekiti State governorship election, with an All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, Makinde Araoye, and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate, Ambassador Dare Bejide, trading accusations over the incident.
The disturbance, which occurred during the voting process, was linked to allegations of vote buying and voter intimidation.
Speaking with journalists, Bejide accused Araoye and other APC chieftains in Ilawe including senator representing Ekiti South, Yemi Adaramodu of attempting to disrupt the electoral process at his ward Oke-Adura, Ward 2, unit 4, Ilawe-Ekiti.through acts of intimidation and other alleged electoral malpractices.
However, Araoye in separate interview rejected the allegations and instead accused Bejide of instigating the violence.
