Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has defended President Bola Tinubu’s administration against criticism from the African Democratic Congress (ADC), arguing that the government’s achievements in road infrastructure speak for themselves.

Wike was reacting to a recent press statement by the ADC, reportedly signed by the party’s National Chairman, Senator David Mark, which criticized the administration of President Tinubu.

Speaking on the matter, the former Rivers State governor said the opposition party had inadvertently acknowledged the administration’s progress in road construction by admitting that it would not “eat road alone.”

According to Wike, road infrastructure remains fundamental to national development, as it provides access to essential services such as healthcare, education, and agriculture.

“ADC has agreed that President Tinubu has done very well in road infrastructure.

Let us start with that first.

Without roads, you can’t go to hospitals, schools and farms,” he said.

The FCT minister also took aim at David Mark, recalling his tenure as Senate President and questioning infrastructure development in his home state during that period.

Wike noted that the Agwanga-Makurdi road project was awarded while Mark served as Senate President under the then ruling government, but remained in poor condition for years.

He alleged that while ordinary citizens struggled to travel on the road, Mark relied on air transportation to reach his hometown.

“The road from Agwanga to Makurdi was awarded when he was Senate President in the ruling government then.

Poor people couldn’t go back home to Makurdi, but Mark, as the then Senate President, was flying with a helicopter to his village,” Wike said.

He added that the current administration had improved the road network, making travel to Makurdi easier for residents and motorists.

“But today, under this administration, we can now drive to Makurdi freely,” he stated.

The exchange highlights growing political tensions between the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and opposition parties as debates over the performance of the Tinubu administration continue.

I got a text of ADC’s press release to President Tinubu, where they said they won’t eat road alone. Beautiful, ADC has agreed that President Tinubu has done very well in road infrastructure.
